Mecklenburg Defensive Shooters (MDS) is a group of individuals that are members of Mecklenburg Wildlife Club (MWC) that volunteer their time and energy to plan and conduct IDPA shooting events. The range and facilities used by MDS are owned and maintained by MWC. MDS members are allowed access to the action pistol berms year around for practice activities within the guidelines of membership rules and by-laws. On the fourth Saturday of each month, MDS is allowed to utilize the action pistol berms and range facilities to conduct a monthly IDPA match. The monthly match is conducted by MDS for members and outside guests using IDPA guidelines.
MDS routinely meets to discuss match details and plan activities. Funding to support MDS is provided through the collection of match fees from members and guests. Monies from these fees are utilized to purchase materials, to include props, targets, computer software, and used to support range upkeep.
MDS is an association of pistol shooters that are committed to the following:
- Promoting and protecting the right of American Citizens to possess and own firearms.
- Provide knowledge and skill development in the safe operation and handling of a firearm.
- Provide Mecklenburg Wildlife Club Members and Guests the opportunity to participate in the sport of International Defensive Pistol Association competition (IDPA).
